Ingredients:
- 1 cup mixed lentils (moong, toor, and chana dal)
- 1 cup chickpeas
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 2-3 green chillies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
- 2 tablespoons jaggery powder
- 2 cups water
- Fresh coriander, for garnish
- Pav bread or rice, for serving
Method:
- Rinse the lentils and chickpeas, and soak them in water for at least 4 hours. Drain and set aside.
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and coriander seeds, and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
- Add chopped onions, green chillies, and sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Add chopped tomatoes, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
- Add the soaked lentils and chickpeas, salt, tamarind paste, jaggery powder, and water. Mix well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils are cooked.
- Garnish with fresh coriander, and serve with pav bread or rice.
