Ingredients:

For the Koftas:

  • 1 cup raw jackfruit (kathal), grated or finely chopped
  • 2-3 boiled potatoes, mashed
  • 1/2 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For the Gravy:

  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 cup yogurt, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

1. Making the Koftas:

  1. Heat a little oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a minute.
  4. Stir in the grated or chopped jackfruit and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Add red chili powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the jackfruit is cooked through.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked jackfruit mixture, mashed potatoes, gram flour, and salt to make a dough-like consistency.
  8. Shape the mixture into small balls to make koftas.
  9. Heat oil in a pan and deep-fry the koftas until golden brown. Drain excess oil and set aside.

2. Preparing the Gravy:

  1. Heat oil in a separate pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add the tomato puree, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the oil separates.
  5. Whisk the yogurt and add it to the gravy. Cook for a few more minutes.
  6. Add garam masala and adjust salt if needed.

3. Bringing it Together:

  1. Just before serving, gently place the koftas in the gravy and simmer for a few minutes.
  2. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.

4. Serving:

  1. Serve Kathal Kofta Curry hot with naan, rice, or roti.
  2. Enjoy the flavorful jackfruit dumplings in rich and spicy gravy.
