Ingredients:

For Dhokli (Wheat Dumplings):

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for kneading

For Dal (Lentil Curry):

  • 1 cup tuvar dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons ghee
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Method:

For Dhokli (Wheat Dumplings):

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough.
  3. Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into thin, flat discs (dhokli).
  4. Keep aside for later use.

For Dal (Lentil Curry):

  1. Rinse tuvar dal under running water and pressure cook with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft and mushy.
  2. In a separate pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Allow them to splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  5. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  6. Pour the cooked tuvar dal into the mixture and bring it to a boil. Adjust consistency with water if needed.
  7. Gently place the prepared wheat dumplings (dhokli) into the boiling dal.
  8. Cover and simmer until the dhokli is cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with lemon wedges.
