- 250 gm baby potatoes
- 2 tablespoons oil or ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1-2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin (jeera) powder
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
- Lemon juice (optional)
- Water, as needed
Instructions:
1. Preparing the Potatoes:
- Peel the potatoes. Rinse the potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
2. Sautéing the Potatoes:
- Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add slit green chilies and sauté for a few seconds.
- Carefully add the baby potatoes, stirring to coat them evenly with the cumin seeds and oil.
3. Cooking the Potatoes:
- Cook the potatoes on medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Stir in turmeric powder, ground cumin (jeera) powder, ground coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well to coat the potatoes with the spices.
- Add a little water to prevent the spices from burning and to help the potatoes cook.
- Cover the pan and let the potatoes cook until they are tender, stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed.
4. Garnishing and Serving:
- Once the potatoes are cooked through and the spices have blended well, garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Optionally, squeeze some lemon juice over the potatoes for a tangy twist.
5. Serving:
- Serve Aloo Jeera hot as a side dish with roti, paratha, or puri.
- Enjoy this simple and flavorful cumin-spiced potato dish!
Tips:
- Adjust the spice levels by varying the amount of green chilies and red chili powder.
- You can add other spices like garam masala for an extra flavor boost.
- Ensure the potatoes are evenly cooked and have absorbed the spices for the best taste.
