- Cook Toor Dal:
- Rinse the toor dal and cook it in a pressure cooker until soft and mushy. Set aside.
- Prepare Tamarind Extract:
- Soak a small ball of tamarind in warm water and extract the juice. Set aside.
- Sauté Vegetables:
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, dry red chillies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the mustard seeds splutter.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add Tomatoes and Radishes:
- Add diced tomatoes to the pan and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add chopped radishes, turmeric powder, and sambar powder. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Combine Dal and Tamarind Extract:
- Add the cooked toor dal to the pan. Mix well.
- Pour in the tamarind extract and add salt. Stir and let it simmer until the radishes are tender.
- Finish with Tempering:
- In a separate small pan, heat a bit of oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and a pinch of asafoetida. Pour this tempering over the sambar.
